Sign in and track a trip, and you'll eventually get a third kind of email from us — distinct from the daily deal digest and the Away Mode follow-up that fires the moment you click a fare.
Once your tracked trip's departure date is within 3 days, and hasn't already passed, we send a single "departing soon" reminder. It fires once per trip, ever — not once per day as the date approaches, and never for a trip that's already flown or been sent this alert before.
It's a judgment call, not a spec handed down from anywhere — close enough to departure that Away Mode logistics (insurance, mail, luggage plans) are still genuinely actionable, not so close that there's no time left to act on any of it.
The daily digest goes to every verified user regardless of whether they have a trip booked. The Away Mode follow-up fires once, immediately, right after a click — useful in the moment, easy to forget by the time departure actually arrives. The departing-soon alert exists specifically to close that gap: a last real chance to act, timed to when it's actually relevant rather than when you first clicked.
